Symfony 2.0 Preview Release Announced

At Symfony Live Conference Symfony 2.0 alpha release was announced. The announcement was planned to be made at the end of the conference. It was the session all the attendees were waiting impatiently for.

Fabien Potencier, CEO of Sensio Labs and lead developer of Symfony framework, officially announced Symfony 2.0 preview release on February 17.

The second branch of the framework went beyond expectations of many. Now it has manifold new significant features that make it even more powerful and fast. New Symfony has a different structure of folders, the notions of “partial” and “slot” are not used any more. Plugins are now replaced by bundles – a structured deposit of files that implements a single feature and can be easily shared with other developers. Bundles are easy to configure and customize.
Symfony 2.0 is an absolutely new framework, built from scratch on PHP5.

Symfony core team applied optimization strategies that make the new version the fastest one of all the PHP frameworks. For example, the “Hello World” application test showed that it’s 2 times faster than symfony 1.4.2 and 3.5 times faster than Zend 1.10.

Symfony 2.0 tools (web debug toolbar, helpful error messages, useful logs and the command line Interface) promote best development practices and are designed to enhance your productivity.

The only drawback of Symfony 2.0 is that there is no backward compatibility, which leaves at leaves something to improve in the new framework.
Symfony core team launched a new website www.symfony-reloaded.org dedicated to Symfony 2.0. The site introduces the second branch of the framework in all the details.
