ORM Propel 1.5 is out

The release of Propel 1.5 RC2 was announced on February 22. Three months of hard work on the framework did its job and Propel now presents manifold new features. Moreover the new branch is going to be feature freeze.

The new ORM is a significantly improved version of Propel 1.4 with a long list of new features. Propel 1.5 is fully backwards compatible with previous versions — 1.4 and 1.3. So you don’t have to rewrite the project from the very beginning, you just need to upgrade the propel libraries, rebuild your model and start using the full range of Propel 1.5 features.

As in previous versions a big emphasis in the new branch is put on the best runtime performance and IDE friendliness. Thus, Propel 1.5 is thought to be even better and definitely faster than 1.4.

Among the most significant there are:

  • New runtime Query API
  • Collections support
  • New behaviors (i.e. sluggable,  nested sets, sortable, concrete table inheritance)
  • Many-to-many relations
  • Upgraded Oracle support

Nevertheless there is much to be improved in Propel and the development team is currently working on it.
